Berlin : Germany Friday condemned the bomb attack against former Pakistan premier Benazir Bhutto as an attempt to destroy democracy in the nation.
“The brutality of this insidious act fills us with horror. It had the completely unjustified intention of destroying democracy in Pakistan,” German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said.
Such an aim needed to be confronted, he added.
Scores of people died and hundreds were injured when a suicide bomber targeted Bhutto’s vehicle in Karachi Thursday night.
Bhutto was not injured in the attack, which occurred only hours after she returned to Pakistan after eight years in exile.
