Afghan president leaves for Britain visit

Kabul : Afghan President Hamid Karzai left Sunday for London on a four-day state visit to Britain, an official statement said.

During the visit, Karzai will meet with Queen Elizabeth II, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Prince Charles, and other British authorities, said the statement.

Both sides will discuss bilateral relations, regional issues, and the role of Britain in Afghanistan’s reconstruction, the strengthening of security, and the training of the Afghan national army, it said.

Karzai will address students, teachers, scientists and researchers at the Oxford Union on a wide range of issues related to Afghanistan, it added.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Rangeen Dadfar Spanta and National Security Advisor Zalmai Rasoul are accompanying the president on this trip, according to the statement.
