Leh : With continuous improvement in bilateral ties of India and China, the officers of the two armies today met at the Indian Border Personnel Meeting Hut in Eastern Ladakh.
Sources told News Agency of Kashmir that border personnel meetings in Ladakh are held four times in a year between the Indian and Chinese military delegations in order to build confidence between the troops at local level and also to ensure peace and tranquility.
In recent years both the countries signed agreements such as ‘peace and tranquility agreement’ in 1993 and ‘confidence building measures’ in 1996.
Apart from this, in order to develop long lasting friendship between the two border forces, mechanism of border personnel meetings and flag meetings have been institutionalised.
Sources told NAK that both the sides were represented by nine officers. The Chinese delegation was received by the Indian delegation leader Brigadier Surinder Singh.
After the reception, the tricolour was hoisted and both the delegations held a formal meeting in an atmosphere of mutual trust and camaraderie.
Both the sides agreed to join hands in contributing to peace and tranquility in the region in consonance with the agreements.
On the occasion a cultural programme was also presented by the troops of Chulshul Garrison that evoked keen interest of the Chinese delegation.
The Indian and Chinese music tunes played by the Military Pipe and Jazz Band made visitors sway.
Later, the Chinese delegation was escorted back to the Line of Actual Control by Brigadier Surinder Singh.
