Baghdad : An American soldier was killed and eight others were injured in a roadside bomb attack in eastern Baghdad, the U.S. military said on Sunday.
The attack occurred on Wednesday when a roadside bomb detonated near the soldiers’ vehicle while conducting combat operations in the area, the military said in a statement.
Six of the eight wounded soldiers have returned to duty after being treated in an army medical facility, the statement said.
The name of the deceased soldier is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, it added.
The soldiers’ unit continues conducting targeted raids and clearing operations against insurgents in this part of the capital, the statement said.
The latest death brings the number of U.S. soldiers who have been killed in Iraq to about 3,835 since the U.S.-led invasion broke out in 2003, according to media count based on Pentagon figures.
