Chennai : The Tamil Nadu assembly Monday passed a bill providing for 3.5 percent reservation each to Backward Class Christians and Muslims in government jobs and education.
This quota will be within the overall 49 percent reservation allowed by the Supreme Court and has been carved out of the existing 30 percent quota for Backward Classes.
Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi asked members of all political parties to take oath on this day to “continue to strive for social justice in the state”.
