Australia announce team for Hong Kong Sixes

Melbourne : Former Australia coach John Buchanan’s son Michael is among the seven players for the Hong Kong Sixes cricket tournament starting Saturday.

The other members of the squad announced Wednesday by Cricket Australia (CA) are Aaron O’Brien, Alex Doolan, Nathan Reardon, Shawn Gillies, Matt Johnston and Steve O’Keefe.

“The team, which will be managed by Western Australian Cricket Association’s high performance manager Doug Harris, leaves for Hong Kong Thursday in preparation for the first match Saturday, Oct 27, against Bangladesh,” said CA in a statement.

The 10 competing teams have been drawn into three pools for the first round-robin stage of the tournament.

Australia, Bangladesh, South Africa and an All Stars team are in Sobers Group, while India, New Zealand and England are in Bradman Group. Cowdrey Group has Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Hong Kong.

The All-Star team, which has been included for the first time in the tournament, includes Anil Kumble, recently retired Australians Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath, West Indian Brian Lara, Zimbabwean Heath Streak, recently retired New Zealander Craig MacMillan and Pakistani all-rounder Shahid Afridi.

The final will be played at Kowloon Cricket Club Oct 28.
