Governor S.K. Singh has by an ordinance allowed Jaipur National University and Amity University, Singhania University and Sir Padampat Singhania University to start operations.

“These universities are expected to bring in an investment of over Rs.3.5 billion,” state Education Minister Ghanshyam Tiwari told IANS.

Moreover, the universities are expected to offer direct and indirect employment to at least 5,000 people, the minister said adding that proposals for 21 more such universities were under consideration.

Two of the universities, Amity and Jaipur National University, would come up near Jaipur on 50 acres of land each and together would offer around 2,500 seats to students in various streams from biotechnology and nano-technology to fashion designing and hotel management.

Singhania University would be set up on 30 acres of land in Jhunjhunu and offer 500 seats to students while Sir Padampat Singhania University would come up in Udaipur district on 30 acres of land and would accommodate 600 students.

“Our endeavour is to make Rajasthan an education hub and we are moving towards that,” Tiwari said.

In August, the state government had given its approval for opening 18 new engineering colleges in the state.

Among these new players, 10 are in the private sector and are set to open their educational institutes in Baran, Churu, Dholpur, Dungarpur, Hanumangarh, Jaisalmer, Pali, Sawai Madhopur, Sirohi and Tonk.

Currently there are around 50 engineering colleges in the state, of which around five are in government sector while about 45 are in the private sector, accounting for 16,000 engineering seats in the state. The new colleges are expected to account for an increase of around 6,000 engineering seats.
