New Delhi: Out of 474 qualified for Civil Services exam of 2006, there were 17 Muslims. This comes out to be 3.6% Muslims in this year’s batch of Civil Servants. The percentage of Muslims each year in UPSC Civil Services Exam range from 2 -4%. Muslims share could be even lower if it is not for various coaching institutions spread through out India coaching potential Muslim candidates for theses tough exams.
One such coaching institution Hamdard Study Circle (HSC) started in 1992 in New Delhi had helped 202 Muslims qualify for Civil Services exams. Located in Jamia Hamdard campus in Talimabad, New Delhi Hamdard Study Circle is lead by Prof. Syed Aftab Zaidi.
Now HSC is coming out with a plan to further improve their coaching facility by hiring the best teaching faculty, improving facility for students and bringing in speakers and guest faculty. It has also decided to reach out and spot talented young Muslims and nurture them from their college days itself. This entire plan should have an impact for the UPSC exam of 2008.
HSC is planning an entrance test for its coaching facility to get the best and motivated Muslims to benefit from its coaching. The exam will be held on November 25th, 2007 at New Delhi, Patna, Guwahati, Cehnnai and Calicut. Application form can be obtained from the Hamdard Study Circle’s office in New Delhi either by person or by mail.
Candidates short-listed after written exam will be called for a group discussion and interview at New Delhi.
All qualified will be given rigorous training to improve their writing skills and developing analytical approach to situation and problems.
Following Sachar Committee Report the Ministry of Minority Affairs has decided to give a Rs. 1500/- per month to candidates being coached for Civil Services Examination. This in combination with superior coaching will help boost the numbers of Muslims appearing and qualifing for Civil Services Examinations.
