TN Minister apprises himself of Water Sector Re-structuring Project Work in MP

Bhopal: Public Works Minister of Tamil Nadu, Durai Murugan apprised himself of the work being carried out under Water Sector Re-structuring project in Madhya Pradesh at a meeting held at Band Suraksha Bhawan here today.

Besides Murugan, other senior officers of Water Resource Department were also present at the meeting. He discussed all the aspects regarding modernization of dams and canals. After the meeting Murugan said that water conservation is must and therefore all the states should co-operate to solve this. He said that by exchange of experience and thoughts one can learn a lot. For this purpose he invited officers of Water Resources Department of Madhya pradesh to Tamil Nadu.

Principal Secretary, Water Resources Department, Arvind Joshi informed the Minister that Madhya Pradesh has taken the lead to initiate river-linking project. Agreement has been signed with Uttar Pradesh Government to link Ken and Betwa and conversations are on for linking Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal with Rajasthan Government.

Director, Water Sector Project, P.K. Tiwari said that the project funded by World Bank is expected to finish in the year 2011. This includes 654 old dams and related canals.A sum of Rs. 1919 crore would be spent for their modernization. So far, 64 irrigation projects proposed for renovation have been passed by World Bank.
