All the 10 doctors were on leave after being charged by the state crime branch in the female foeticide cases early this year, a senior state health official told IANS.

On July 14 local residents had discovered seven female foetuses, around eight months old, packed in polythene packets at Pratapgarh cave near Duburi in Nayagarh district, some 100 km from here.

The police and health department officials raided various government and private health centres and nursing homes after recovery of more foetuses from different parts of the country.

The doctors did not join duty despite repeated warning by the state health authority. The crime branch had later arrested six of them and produced them in court. The rest are still absconding.
