According to a passenger, Zainora Zainal, MAS Flight MH160 from Kuala Lumpur to Dubai was transiting Karachi when it learned of the threat.

She told Bernama through her mobile telephone short-messaging system (SMS) that as at 12.06am (local time), passengers were still stranded at Karachi airport while security checks were being carried out.

Further details could not be obtained because of communication problems with Zainora after that.

The officer manning the MAS customer service hotline here confirmed the flight was stranded in Karachi for five hours but was allowed to take off at 2am local time.

However, she was unable to say why the plane had to be grounded.
