Agra : At least four people were killed and 12 others injured when a cooking gas (LPG) cylinder burst in an Uttar Pradesh village, police officials said Saturday.
Four of those injured in the incident, which occurred late Friday in Keitham village, about 25 km from here, are in critical condition.
Although police officials insist the tragedy was the result of a LPG cylinder burst, eyewitnesses told reporters that a villager detonated a country-made bomb following an argument with his wife.
They claimed that Vinod and his wife Rajni had a heated argument, following which Vinod rushed into the house and hurled a country-made bomb at a wall, which brought the house down.
A source said there was gunpowder in the house, which caught fire. Fireworks are being manufactured illegally in several villages of the state now, in view of the upcoming Diwali festival.
After allegedly hurling the bomb, Vinod fled from the house. His mother, wife and two neighbours were buried in the debris and were killed.
