Chandigarh : It is raining largesse from all sides for the Chandigarh Press Club, as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati announced a grant of Rs.3 million to the club on her visit to the city Saturday.
Mayawati’s benevolence to the club got the better of the Rs.2.5 million grants announced separately by chief ministers of Punjab and Haryana to the club earlier.
“I will give you a cheque for this amount before leaving the club premises,” she said.
Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda had announced Rs.2.5 million grant last year after having given another gift of Rs.1.6 million a few months before.
Former Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh has also given grants of Rs.1.5 million and Rs.2.5 million in the past one year.
The club, located in an upscale area of Sector-27 here, is touted as the best press club in the country with several facilities like swimming pool, tennis and badminton courts, gymnasium, bar, restaurant, library, bank and a telecom centre.
