Beijing : Congress president Sonia Gandhi Saturday met Liu Qi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC). The two stressed strengthening of exchanges between the two countries, especially through young people of each country visiting the other.
Liu, also secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, said China hopes to enrich the contents of its strategic partnership with India.
Gandhi is in China on a five-day visit at the invitation of the CPC. Besides Beijing, she will visit Xi’an, capital of the northwestern Shaanxi province, and China’s economic hub Shanghai.
Liu said China and India have a deep friendship and the two countries share broad space for cooperation.
“We hope to continuously deepen and expand the friendly cooperation between the two countries and enrich the contents of the China-India strategic partnership,” Liu said.
As president of the Beijing Organising Committee for the 2008 Olympic Games, Liu also briefed Gandhi on preparations for the Games and the development of Beijing.
Gandhi said she had seen great changes taking place in China at her fourth visit here and was happy to see the continuous development of India-China relations.
She suggested the two sides further strengthen exchanges and cooperation, particularly on the exchanges of youth.
