Jammu : Holding Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ministers directly responsible for failure of government in the state, former chief minister and chief patron of National Conference Dr Farooq Abdullah today said that the greed for power will never allow Mufti Muhammad Sayeed to pull out of the coalition.

Speaking in a chat show on a local cable TV network, Take One Television, Dr Abdullah expressed surprise over the way coalition government was functioning in the state. “This marriage of inconvenience has proved a failure and I have no doubts in my mind to say that the experiment has turned out to be fatal for the people of Jammu and Kashmir “, he said.

“What is stopping them to pull out”, he asked, while referring to the repeated threats by the PDP to pull out of coalition government. “It is their own greed for power and nothing else”, he added.

The NC chief patron was also surprise as what completion chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has to continue alliance with “such opportunists”. “Let them go if they want and let people decide their fate”, he suggested.

He was of the opinion that PDP would do everything to stick to power as it was their completion to be there. “Threats, threats and threats is what we have been hearing from the last three years”, he said adding, “Ministers of PDP were directly responsible for the failure of the coalition government”.

It is clear that since PDP lost its command over the coalition government it is doing its best to prove Azad a failure, he said adding, “The tug of war between the coalition alliance is now ultimately proving fatal for the people of Jammu and Kashmir , which were already facing bloodshed and violence”.

“They built castles in air before election but now they stand exposed”, he said. “It is unfortunate that once in power, we forgot our pledges to the electorate and began playing ego games”, he said adding “This greed for power and control leads to internal intolerance and difference within”.

The party MLAs are holding important portfolios but their repeated threats to the government was not allowing the government to function, which is unfortunate.

Referring to the ensuing assembly elections, Dr Abdullah said that National Conference would go to people with its policies and programmes. “We have faith on people and we would not make hollow promises and try to win elections by befooling people”.

“See what they had promised before the last assembly elections and what they have did”, he said. “We will only make such promises which we know we can work on and accomplish after coming to power”.

Terming the ongoing situation in the state as regrettable, Dr Abdullah said that state was going through the crises of power, unemployment and lack of accountability. “We are badly facing power crises which have not allowed industrialists to come over and set up their units in the state”, he said adding, “This has in turn its affect not only on the economic health but has also adversely affected educated and technically sound unemployed youth”.

Balgihar Hydro Electric Project was to be completed this year but it is now being claimed that the project would be accomplished somewhere in next year. “Government should come out with explanation before the general masses about its failures”.

Referring to the recent incident of devastating fire in Margi village of Kishtwar and Gurez, Dr Abdullah demanded immediate relief to the affected families. Winter, he said, is over their heads and government should make immediate arrangements so that the victims may not suffer.

Over the issue of troops redeployment, NC Patron said that PDP was making it an issue for its own political gains. “We also want that the troops be relocated immediately from the interior areas of the state”, he said adding, “We are serious over the issue and want New Delhi to act upon immediately”.

“Government should understand that it is an important matter”, he said adding, “Troops need to be relocated if government want to win over the hearts and minds of common people”.
