New Delhi : President Pratibha Patil will Tuesday host a reception for the Indian national teams that won the Twenty20 World Championship of cricket, Asia Cup hockey and Nehru Cup football titles recently.
The three men’s teams will have high tea with Patil at the Durbar Hall of Rashstrapati Bhawan here.
Rashstrapati Bhawan sources said Patil was keen on meeting the three teams together.
“The three teams had written to the president through the sports ministry separately, requesting that they wanted to meet her,” a source told IANS.
“She was also keen on meeting them, but she insisted that all three teams came together.”
The Bhaichung Bhutia-led football team defeated Syria 1-0 in the final to lift the Nehru Cup in Delhi Aug 29, the day Patil presented the country’s top sports awards at the Rashstrapati Bhawan.
The hockey team, led by Prabodh Tirkey, won the Asia Cup beating South Korea 7-2 in the final in Chennai Sep 9.
And then Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s side beat Pakistan in the final to clinch the Twenty20 World Championship in Johannesburg, South Africa, Sep 24.
