Kabul : A suicide bomber Monday exploded himself in Lashkar Gah, capital of Afghanistan’s Helmand province, killing three people and injuring five, including a child, a police official said.
The attacker was trying to target a police patrol, Mohammad Hussein Andiwal, the Hemland police chief, told Xinhua.
The ensuing explosion killed the bomber and three passers-by and injured four other civilians and one policeman.
No person or group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet but in the past such attacks have been usually blamed on the Taliban insurgents.
The Taliban, after being toppled by the US invasion in late 2001, has waged an insurgent movement against the Afghan administration and international troops.
Militancy-related violence and conflicts have claimed the lives of more than 5,300 people since January this year in war-torn Afghanistan.
UN special envoy to Afghanistan Tom Koenigs has said the UN has recorded 606 roadside bombs and 133 suicide attacks in the country since January.
