Patna : Suspected Maoist guerillas blasted a railway track Tuesday morning in Bihar’s Begusarai district.
Maoists triggered the powerful blast to enforce a 24-hour strike called by the Communist Party India (Maoist) Tuesday, in Bihar and Jharkhand to protest the killing of four Maoist activists in Jharkhand two days ago.
Normal movement of trains on Barauni-Katihar route under Samastipur division of East Central Railway were disrupted after the blast, a railway official said here. Besides, several trains were diverted.
A team of local police as well as Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel are camping at the blast site. According to the police no casualty or injury has been reported.
Railway officials have rushed to the site to supervise restoration works, railway sources said.
In view of the Maoist strike, the East Central Railway had announced cancellation of three Jharkhand-bound trains Monday night and six trains Tuesday. Besides routes of nine trains were changed.
Security at important government installations has been beefed up.
Railway police personnel have been deployed in all Maoist-affected areas and tracks are being monitored to avert possible sabotage, official sources said.
