India and Germany Sign Cooperation Agreements

New Delhi, Oct 30 (Prensa Latina) India and Germany signed seven cooperation agreements in science and technology, defense and intellectual property Tuesday as part of the official visit of German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel to India.

Merkel met Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Tuesday to discuss regional, global and bilateral topics including climatic changes, the UN reform, energy security and international trade.

Merkel arrived in New Delhi Monday night with an enterprise delegation and was received with military honors at the New Delhi Presidential Palace.

Merkel´s main objectives in this visit are trade and investment, and took part in a dinner with Indian entrepreneurs organized by the Indian Commerce Chamber.

She has scheduled a trip to Mumbai (Bombay) to meet regional authorities and participate in a meeting between German and Indian companies Wednesday.

Germany is India’s main commercial partner in the European Union, with exchanges over 10 million euros in 2006, and is the 7th best investor in India with 1.9 billion euros between 1991 and 2007.

Merkel will meet a social assistance project and several civil groups in the last day of her visit.
