New Delhi : Delhi University Wednesday suspended Ramjas College vice-principal B.N. Ray, who has been accused of sodomizing 15 male students.
“The vice-principal has been suspended from his post till an inquiry committee probing the sexual harassment charges finishes its task,” said Madhumita Banerjee, chairperson of the college complaint committee.
“The concerned person will cease to be a teacher in the college with immediate effect. He cannot take any classes,” Banerjee told IANS.
She said a “prima facie case has been put up against professor B.N. Ray and the complaint committee will start the enquiry soon”.
“The committee will submit a report in 15 working days from the day the enquiry begins. The decision was taken to make the enquiry fair and impartial,” said Banerjee, a botany lecturer with the college.
Last week, students of the Ramjas College had accused Ray of sexually harassing male students and had demanded immediate action against him.
In a resolution submitted to principal Rajender Prasad, students said: “There have been proven charges against Ray of sexual assault and abuse of students, both inter- and intra-departmentally.”
