Islamabad : At least 8 persons were killed and nearly 60 were wounded Thursday in a suicide explosion on a Pakistan Air Force (PAF) bus in an eastern Pakistani city, said officials.
PAF spokesman, Sarfaraz Ahmed Khan, said a suicide bomber riding a motorbike rammed into the bus as it was taking personnel to the air base in Sargodha city, about 300 kilometers east of Islamabad.
He said about six PAF personnel were killed and 40 others were wounded.
However, according to police sources more than eight personnel were killed and about 60 others were wounded including civilians. Interior ministry spokesman Brigadier Javed Cheema also confirmed death of eight PAF officers. And sources feared rise in the death toll as many wounded were in critical condition.
The explosion took place a day after a suicide blast in the sensitive army area in Rawalpindi city that killed seven people and wounded more than 20 others.
Security forces have been the target of militants since the army conducted a deadly raid on Lal Mosque few months back in Islamabad.
Officially the death toll was put near 103 but clerics claimed that more than 1,000 were killed in the operation.
