The new police district will be called Outer Delhi District. With this, the number of police districts in the city rises to 10.

“We have created a new police district. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (northwest) Sagarpreet Hooda has been promoted to DCP and will head the new district,” Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said Saturday.

The decisions were announced late Friday.

“The new district has been made after bifurcating Northwest Delhi District. The step has been taken to ensure better policing and more security in the border areas adjoining Haryana,” Bhagat added.

Until now Delhi was split into nine police districts – Central, North, Northwest, East, Northeast, South, Southwest, West and New Delhi.

DCP Southwest R.S. Yadav has been transferred to Special Branch. He will be replacing R.K. Sharma.

Sharma has been moved to DCP Security. Madhup Tiwari, who was in charge of Security, replaces A.S. Cheema as DCP Crime and Railways.

Shalini Singh, the present DCP Vigilance, has been moved to DCP Southwest. Sharad Aggarwal, DCP of 3rd and 6th battalion of Delhi Armed Police, has been appointed the new DCP Vigilance.
