Sixty militants killed in Afghanistan

Kabul : Afghan security forces and the US-led coalition forces have killed around 60 insurgents in Afghanistan, authorities said Saturday.

Afghan and coalition forces Friday had killed over 20 insurgents and detained 11 others in the eastern Nuristan province overnight, according to a coalition statement.

The joint forces, acting on credible intelligence, located and air assaulted into a mountainous region in Kamdesh district, it said.

While clearing the objectives, the forces discovered a roadside bombing factory, various weapons, communication gear and uniform items, it said.

Only one coalition soldier was injured during the operation, according to the statement.

Meanwhile, another coalition statement said Afghan and coalition forces killed almost two dozen Taliban militants in Musa Qala district of the southern Helmand province.

Moreover, police chief of the central Ghazni province Alishah Ahmadzai said Afghan police killed 18 Taliban militants and arrested six others in Andar district in the province.

Due to rising Taliban violence, over 4,200 people, most of whom were Taliban militants, have been killed in Afghanistan this year.
