Dehradun : Nineteen people were killed and 23 injured Sunday when a bus carrying them fell into a deep gorge in Uttarakhand’s Tehri-Garhwal district.
The bus was travelling from Guttu to Ghansali in the district, when the driver apparently lost control while negotiating a sharp curve.
According to Tehri district magistrate G.D. Joshi, “Eight of the 23 injured are serious and have been rushed to Dehradun for specialized treatment.”
“The accident occurred around 9.15 a.m. when the bus was about to reach its destination, Ghansali, about 48 km from Tehri, the district headquarter,” he told IANS.
While 17 people died on the spot, two succumbed to their injuries in the hospital. “The rest of the injured were out of danger”, Joshi said.
