Kabul : Afghan and the US-led coalition forces killed 25 Taliban insurgents in Kandahar province of southern Afghanistan early Sunday morning, a coalition statement said.
The joint forces conducted a cordon and search operation of an insurgent headquarters southwest of Kandahar city, the provincial capital.
Credible intelligence led the forces to two compounds in Ashoqeh village, 17 km southwest of Kandahar city, the statement said.
Intelligence suggested that the compounds comprised seven buildings in which multiple insurgent leaders responsible for the deaths of Afghans and coalition forces were present, said the statement.
Afghan security forces and coalition forces killed around 60 insurgents across Afghanistan on Friday.
Due to rising Taliban violence, over 4,200 people, most of whom were Taliban militants, have been killed in Afghanistan this year.
