At Rotterdam’s De Kuip Stadium Saturday night, Luigi Bruis scored the first goal barely two minutes into the game and Roy Makaay added the second two minutes before the break, sealing victory for the hosts, who have achieved a perfect start of the new season with three wins in as many matches.

Feyenoord, overshadowed by arch-rivals PSV Eindhoven and Ajax in recent years, is aiming for the title this season with several new signings.

Defending champions PSV were held to a goalless draw Saturday at Twente Enschede and dropped to second behind Feyenoord with seven points.

In other third-round action Saturday, Heerenveen were held to a 3-3 draw by visitors Sparta Rotterdam, and NAC Breda rallied to defeat Heracles Almelo 4-1 to notch their first win of the season.

Friday, AZ Alkmaar, runners up last season, beat Excelsior Rotterdam 3-0.

In Sunday action, Ajax will host Groningen, while Vitesse Arnhem will play NEC Nijmegen. Both Ajax and Vitesse have won their first two matches of the season.
