Baghdad : US President George W. Bush landed here Monday on a previously unannounced visit to the war-torn country, pan-Arab satellite TV al-Jazeera reported.
Bush, joined by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and National Security Advisor Steven Hadley, landed in the Al-Asad airbase in Iraq’s western province of Anbar, the channel said.
US Defence Secretary Robert Gates also arrived in Iraq but he was travelling separately, it added.
The surprise visit came a week before Gen. David Petraeus, the top US commander in Iraq, and Ryan Crocker, the US ambassador in Baghdad, were to table in the US Congress their long-awaited report on the conflicts in Iraq.
