In a joint statement issued here Monday, Jamiat president Maulana Syed Arshad Madani and general secretary Maulana Syed Mahmood Madani severely condemned the blasphemous cartoon published in a Swedish newspaper which depicted the Holy Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be with him) as a dog.

The Jamiat leaders also demanded stern action against the Swedish artist Lars Vilks and the editor of the Örebro local newspaper Nerikes Allehanda for sketching and publishing the deregotary cartoon.

They also drew the attention of Muslim States to rise to the occasion and register their strong protest against the publication of such a blasphemous cartoon.

Several art galleries had refused to display the sketches amid fears of angry reactions from Muslims.

They appealed to all particularly the Muslims to keep patience and fortitude.
