Srinagar : Former Jammu and Kashmir police chief Gopal Sharma has been appointed as the new director general of the paramilitary Special Services Bureau (SSB).
Sharma, who headed the Jammu and Kashmir police for over four years and led anti-militancy operations from the front, is a 1972 Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the state cadre.
Sharma, who was the longest serving director general of police (DGP) in the state, was made security advisor to the Jammu and Kashmir chief minister in July this year. Senior IPS officer Kuldeep Khuda took over from him as DGP.
