Sirsa MP Atma Singh Gill found himself in a spot Thursday night when local people surrounded the rest house on the outskirts of this town and the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) and police officials opened his room.

Though people alleged that the MP was closeted with the two young women in suspicious circumstances, police said he had checked in with his relatives.

Jind district police chief Jagwant Singh Lamba dismissed allegations of any wrongdoing by the MP and gave him a clean chit without a formal enquiry.

“We got information that crowds had surrounded the rest house on finding some people under suspicious circumstances there. The police went and checked. It was verified that the MP was with two women relatives. The public which had gathered dispersed after being convinced,” he said.

Liquor bottles were found in the room though consumption of liquor in government rest houses is prohibited.

Gill told reporters that he had arrived late on way from Chandigarh to Sirsa and decided to stay in the rest house with the women.

No entry was made by the MP in the rest house register while checking into the place.

The MP and both women were taken away by the police through a side door of the rest house.

Police have not registered any case.
