New York : Max Mirnyi and Victoria Azarenka of Belarus claimed the US Open tennis mixed doubles title defeating India’s Leander Paes and American Meghann Shaughnessy in the final.
The Belarussian pair won 6-4 7-6 (8-6) Thursday.
“It’s been an amazing two weeks for me,” said 18-year-old Azarenka, who beat Martina Hingis on her way to the fourth round of the women’s singles.
“I have always loved the US Open and wanted to do well here so thanks to everyone, especially Max.”
The 30-year-old Mirnyi played alongside Paes in the men’s doubles but the seeded pair bowed out early.
