Following the precedent set by Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan in granting bail to Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt in the case, a bench of Justices Arjit Pasayat and P. Sathasivam gave bail to Yusuf Abdul Razak Memon and Essa alias Anjum Abdul Razak Memon, brothers of Tiger Memon, the fugitive mastermind behind the serial blasts.

Besides the duo, who have been handed life sentences for their role in executing the terror operation, the bench also granted bail to Tiger Memon’s sister-in-law Rubina Suleiman Memon and his foster sister Mubina alias Baya Moosa Bhiwandiwala.

Rubina is the wife of Tiger Memon’s eldest brother Suleiman Memon and has been sentenced to a life term. Mubina has been sentenced to five years in jail.

All four had sought bail on the ground that the detailed and reasoned judgements of P.D. Kode, the special judge of the anti-terror TADA court, were yet to be delivered to them. Dutt was granted bail on the same grounds last month.

The bench ordered the four Memons to surrender before the court the moment they received the copies of Kode’s order on their conviction.
