The report said that the explosion took place in the Mediterranean port town of Dellys, 100 km east of the capital Algiers.

The initial report, quoting local medical sources, said that 10 people were killed in the blast.

This is the second bombing in the country in three days. On Thursday, a suicide bomb attack in eastern Algeria killed about 19 people and wounded 107 others.

That attack took place at the town of Batna, some 450 km east of Algiers, apparently targeting President Abdelaziz Bouteflika who had planned to visit the region.

Although the security situation in Algeria has greatly improved in recent years, sporadic attacks continue to be reported in isolated parts of the north African country.
