Islamabad : Pakistani security forces killed 10 miscreants in a retaliatory raid after militants launched attack on a convoy of security forces in the troubled Waziristan tribal region on Sunday, the army spokesman and witnesses said.
Military’s spokesman Maj. Gen. Waheed Arshad said that seven security men received minor injuries in the clash at Shawal area, located along the border between North and South Waziristan.
Unidentified gunmen attacked the convoy when it was moving from one location to another in the same area.
The security forces shelled suspected positions in the mountains and killed 10 miscreants, the spokesman said.
There was no independent confirmation of the claim.
Witnesses said that the security forces used helicopter gunship and heavy weapons to hit suspected militant hideouts.
The injured soldiers were flown to a military hospital in Bannu, a major city near North Waziristan tribal region.
Attacks have increased in Pakistan’s north-west after the security forces stormed a pro-Taliban mosque in Islamabad in July and local Taliban scrapped a peace deal with the government.
