United Nations : “Deeply shocked and saddened,” Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has “strongly condemned” the terrorist attack in Dellys, Algeria, the second such terrorist attack this week in the country.
“The Secretary-General firmly believes that violence will not deter the people of Algeria from the path of peace and national reconciliation,” his press office said in a statement issued late on Saturday, hours after the attack.
A similar terrorist attack took place on Thursday and apparently targeted President Abdelaziz Boutaflika’s convoy in Batna. Both attacks claimed dozens of casualties.
Ban once again expressed his solidarity and sympathies with the people of Algeria and particularly the families of the victims.
Security Council President Jean-Maurice Ripert of France recalled in a statement distributed on Saturday the presidential statement he read out in a council open meeting on Friday condemning the attack in Batna.
“This condemnation must obviously be reiterated with strength, after the new heinous terrorist attack committed today in Dellys,” the statement said.
The Algerian government blames Islamic extremists for both attacks.
