Tikrit, (Iraq) : Gunmen attacked a police station in a village in Salahudin province north of Baghdad Sunday, killing seven policemen and wounding two, a provincial police source said.
“Some 40 gunmen in 10 vehicles stormed a police station in the village of Hajaj near the town of Beiji, Sunday morning and killed seven policemen and wounded others,” the source told Xinhua. The incident took place 200 km north of Baghdad.
The attackers blew up the police station before they fled the scene, the source added.
According to the source, villagers took their arms and chased the attackers with a police force, detaining undetermined number of the attackers.
