Syria to release imprisoned Jordanians

Amman : Syria has promised to release soon a number of Jordanian prisoners jailed in its prisons, said a Jordanian newspaper on Sunday.

According to “Al-Arab Al-Yawm” newspaper, head of the prisoners’ committee Wael Al-Amir said he will start a visit to Syria today with the aim of releasing a number of Jordanian prisoners from jails over there, especially ones that were jailed for a long time.

He said he had serious promises from Syrian officials in this regard, adding that he will meet Syrian Premier Mohammad Naji Utri during the visit.

While not being informed about the number of prisoners that will be released, Al-Amir hoped that 30 inmates, including five females, will be freed.

He noted that Syria wants to also release a number of other prisoners, especially ones jailed spending a long time for criminal and political cases.

According to an official Jordanian list submitted to Syrian authorities, there are 62 Jordanian prisoners.
