Two UK soldiers killed in Afghanistan

London : Two UK soldiers were killed and a number of others were wounded in a “heavy firefight” with the Taleban in southern Afghanistan, The British Ministry of Defense said.

The ministry said in a statement last night that the soldiers, from the 2nd Battalion, The Mercian Regiment, died in an operation against the Taleban in an area south of Garmsir, in Helmand province.

Two soldiers from the same regiment were killed in Afghanistan on Wednesday. The Ministry of Defense said the soldiers were killed when their patrol came under attack during an operation to disrupt Taleban activity. The injured soldiers were taken to Camp Bastion and Kandahar Airfield for medical treatment.

The number of UK troops killed while in operations in Afghanistan since 2001 reached 78.
