Baghdad : The US army has announced that the mastermind behind the deadliest attack against the Yazidi sect, who was an Al-Qaeda-inspired militant, has been killed.
US military spokesman, Rear Admiral Mark Fox told a news conference Sunday that the militant was behind the killings of more than 400 people on Aug 14.
He also said that “hundreds” of Al-Qaeda militants in Iraq had been captured or killed last month.
“On Sept 3, a coalition air strike killed the terrorist responsible for the planning and conducting of the horrific attack against the Yazidis in northern Iraq on Aug 14,” Fox said.
Abu Mohammed Al-Afri, also known as Abu Jassam, was killed in the air strike, 115 km southwest of the northern city of Mosul, Fox said.
