Ranchi : Jharkhand police have arrested two Maoist rebels, destroyed a Maoist bunker and training camp and seized rifles, literature and other incriminating documents, police said Monday.
The Maoist guerrillas were arrested Sunday from Saranda jungle in Chaibasa district, about 300 km from Ranchi. They were arrested when security personnel raided a Maoist bunker.
Police destroyed the cemented bunker and seized four rifles that Maoists had stolen from the police, 250 live cartridges, detonators, fuse wire, Maoist literature, a mobile phone and other incriminating documents.
“The documents and mobile phone seized from Maoist bunkers will reveal the Maoists’ contacts and their activities,” said a police official.
Police also destroyed a Maoist training camp in Bokaro district.
Maoist rebels are active in 16 of the 22 districts of the state. Nearly 950 people including 284 security personnel have been killed in the last six years in Maoist-related violence.
