New Delhi : Eight teams from neighbouring Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka as well as Dubai will be among the 66 vying for top honours at the Subroto Cup football tournament for schools starting here Friday.
A team from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) – the under-14 Dubai Modern High School side — would be taking part for the first time in the tournament, announced J.N. Burma, Air Marshal and air officer-in-charge administration, at a press conference here.
He said that competition would be held in two categories, under-14 and under-17, at the Ambedkar Stadium.
Burma said that the prize money has been doubled this year.
“The champion team and runners-up in the junior category will receive Rs.100,000 and Rs.50,000 respectively and teams in the sub-junior category will get Rs.50,000 and Rs.30,000,” he said.
He also said that 30 outstanding players would be selected in the junior category and each one would be given Rs.10,000 worth of scholarships per year.
A total of 16 players would be selected in the sub-junior category for a Rs.5,000 scholarship per year.
