The agency has issued a warning of tsunami.

The quake struck at 18:10 Jakarta time (1110 GMT) with the epicentre at 159 kilometres southwest Bengkulu city, the capital of Benglulu province in Sumatra Island and at 10 kilometres in depth, official of the agency said.

Indonesia is laid on a vulnerable quake-hit zone, or so called “the Pacific Ring of Fire” where two continental plates meet, causing frequent seismic and volcanic movements.
