New Delhi : India Wednesday activated three battalions of the National Disaster Response Force after receiving a tsunami warning following a 7.8 earthquake in Sumatra, Indonesia.
The tsunami may hit the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the home ministry has warned.
Senior member of the National Disaster Management Authority K.C. Singh told IANS here today that the three battalions activated were at Arakonam in Tamil Nadu, Mundli near Bhubaneswar in Orissa and at Kolkata.
“We have taken precautions in all coastal areas of India,” Singh said.
