New Zealand crush Kenya by nine wickets

Johannesburg : New Zealand outplayed Kenya in their opening Group C match of the Twenty20 World Championships, crushing them by nine wickets at Durban in the first of three cricket matches scheduled for Wednesday.

Put in to bat, Kenya crumbled for a mere 73 in 16.5 overs. New Zealand overhauled the target with 74 balls to spare losing only the wicket of opener Lou Vincent along the way.

Kiwi mediumpacer Mark Gillespie was named the Man of the Match for his spell of 4/7 in 2.5 overs.

In Wednesday’s other games, Pakistan take on minnows Scotland in Group D, also in Durban, and favourites Australia open their campaign against Zimbabwe in Group B at Cape Town.
