New Delhi : Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and Finance Minister P. Chidambaram are among four MPs chosen for the outstanding parliamentarian awards that will be presented by President Pratiba Patil Thursday.
Panchayati Raj Minister Mani Shankar Aiyer and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Sushma Swaraj will also receive the award at a function in parliament’s central hall.
A selection committee headed by Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chatterjee has chosen the four for their performance during 2003-2006. While all the three ministers are members of the Lok Sabha, Swaraj belongs to the Rajya Sabha.
The function will be attended by Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and senior cabinet ministers. Apart from the award winners, both the vice president and the prime minister will address the gathering.
