Ramadan commences Thursday in several Arabian Gulf, Arab states

Kuwait : The holy month of Ramadan commences on Thursday in several Gulf and Arab countries.

Kuwait will celebrate the first day of Ramadan on Thursday, an official judiciary committee said.

Justice Abdullah Al-Essa, reading a statement Tuesday, said Wednesday is the last day of the month of Sha’ban in the Hijra calender, thus the first day of Ramadan falls on Thursday.

Saudi Arabia said it would celebrate the first day of Ramadan on Thursday while the State of Qatar through its Helal (Crescent) Committee also announced that Thursday is the first day of Ramadan.

The United Arab Emirates announced also through a judicial committee that Thursday is the first day of Ramadan in that country.

Egypt also, through its Ifta’a Dar Department announced that Wednesday is the last day of the month of Sha’ban in the Hijra calendar, thus the first day of Ramadan falls on Thursday.

In the Palestinian territories, Sheikh Mohammad Hussain, the General Mufti of the holy city of Al-Quds announced Wednesday as the last day of Sha’ban and therefore the first day of Ramadan falls on Thursday.

In Lebanon, the General Mufti Sheikh Mohammad Qabani announced that Ramadan commences on Thursday in the republic.

Algeria’s Helal Committee of the Ministry of Religious Affairs said Tuesday that Thursday is the first day of Ramadan.

All the Gulf and Arab countries which announced Thursday as the first day of Ramadan congratulated the Muslim world on the holy occasion.
