Uttarakhand’s waqf chief dismissed

Dehradun: Choudhary Raees Ahmed has been dismissed from his post as Chairman of the Uttarakhand Wakf Board.

The BJP government led by B. C. Khanduri alleges administrative and financial irregularities as the reason for the dismissal. This comes after a series of dismissals on corruption charges in other departments. BJP says that it is part of their drive against corruption.

Ahmed, who is a Congress leader allege that it is a political vendetta targeting Congress members of the previous government.

The dismissal notice was issued by the Principal Secretary (Social Welfare) Vinita Kumar based on an inquiry by Principal Secretary (Home) N.S. Napalchiyal, which reportedly corroborated allegations against Ahmed.

Raees Ahmed was accused of gaining control of Piran Kaliyar dargah in Roorkee and not following proper procedure in awarding of contracts. There were allegation of irregularities in dargah administration and management of bank accounts as well.

Choudhary Raees Ahmed countered that many of theses allegations have been dismissed by the High Court and the move by the BJP government is a political vendetta.
