Jakarta : The death toll in Wednesday’s earthquake in Indonesia’s Sumatra island rose to 13 people while 50 people were wounded, the Indonesian Health Ministry said here Friday.
“The total dead are 13 and 50 others are wounded,” the head of the ministry’s crisis centre Rustam Pakaya said.
Pakaya said that most of the dead people were in the worst hit province of Bengkulu with 11 deaths.
The rest of the fatalities were found in West Sumatra province, he said.
The official said that most of the wounded persons were also found in Bengkulu province, one person was wounded in Jambi province and two others in West Sumatra province.
Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono Thursday declared three days of emergency in coastal areas of Sumatra island due to frequent strong and moderate tremors following the main 7.9 Richter scale quake Wednesday in Bengkulu.
