Tata Indicomm launches Samsung handset with mobile Internet

Kolkata : Tata Indicomm launched its mobile web browser handset in association with Samsung Telecommunications India here Thursday.

“This innovation is an important step in extending the power of the Internet to mobile devices. The internet access speed in Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) handsets – Samsung Explore – would be three to four times more than General Packet Radio Service (GPRS),” Tata Teleservices president (value added services) Pankaj Sethi said.

He said Qualcomm India Private Ltd has developed the chipset of the Samsung Explore handset. The handset will be available in the market at Rs.5,499.

Qualcomm, headquartered in San Diego, is a global leader in developing and innovating digital wireless communication products and services based on CDMA and other advanced technologies.

On the occasion of the handset launch, Samsung Electronics vice-president and CDMA head Hyumbai Kim said the company is also planning to introduce a series of Internet phones to cater to the demands of the fast-growing telecom segment in India.
