Wockhardt targets $600 million revenue in 2007

Kolkata : Wockhardt Ltd, an Indian pharmaceutical, bio-pesticides and agro-based products manufacturing major, has set a target to earn $600 million revenue by 2007.

“We have set a target to earn $600 million revenue by the end of 2007 calendar year. We are trying to generate about 50 percent of the company’s total revenue from our operation in Europe,” Wockhardt Ltd chairman Habil Khorakiwala told reporters on the sidelines of a seminar organised by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) here Friday.

He said the company is now trying to consolidate its operation in Europe, focusing mainly on a cost-saving strategy.

Wockhardt has a strong presence with five companies in Europe, of which four are manufacturing units. About 1,500 people are employed altogether in the five different companies located in France, the UK, Germany and Ireland.

He said the company is also targeting to earn $1 billion revenue from its domestic and foreign operations by 2009.

Khorakiwala said Wockhardt Hospitals would set up a 350-bed multi-disciplinary hospital in Kolkata with all advanced facilities.

“The construction would be completed within the next 12 months. We are also interested to set up hospitals in the eastern region like Orissa and Bihar and other major cities in the northeast,” he said, adding that the company is also looking at tier-II cities to set up their hospitals.
